Bay Area Overview This map gives an impression how large the San Francisco Bay Area is. It might be a bit confusing when you hear the different regional names:
  • San Francisco - city of San Francisco
  • North East Bay - north east of San Francisco and north of Fremont
  • East Bay - between Fremont and Berkley
  • Silicon Valley - Santa Clara County in the South Bay (especially San Jose, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos)
  • Peninsula - west bay south of San Francisco  including Silicon Valley. Some even consider Santa Cruz as part of the Peninsula.
